Carol Babinsack sums it up well when she says that the late Sister Margie Monahan was a cherished friend to many people.

“She was always there,” pointed out Babinsack, a member of Saint Stephen Parish in McConnellsburg. “She was willing to help. She was well-known in the county and throughout the diocese.”

For all those reasons, the Saint Stephen parish family wants to memorialize Sister Margie in a special way, and they are inviting those from throughout the diocese who knew and loved Sister to join in the effort.

Sister Margie, a member of the Carmelite Community of the Word, a diocesan community of religious sisters, passed in 2018 following a brief illness.

She was the director of the Fulton County Mission for 29 years. That diocesan mission, located at Saint Stephen Parish, serves individuals and families in need throughout Fulton County.

Sister Margie also dedicated her time and talent to ministry at Saint Stephen – the only Catholic parish in Fulton County.

“She was the heart of our Church,” Babinsack added. “It’s taking a lot of people to do what she was doing.”

As a way of honoring Sister Margie, the parish launched “A Memory Walk in Honor of Sister Margie Monahan.”

Individuals have the opportunity to purchase pavers that will be placed at the grotto and walkway in front of the church. Two paver sizes are available, and each paver can feature an inscribed message.

ORDER FORM

Babinsack admits that Sister Margie never sought the spotlight. Still, the parish family wants to memorialize her and her enduring legacy of supporting others.

“If someone needed something, she always found a way to get that something for that person,” reminded Babinsack.

A Message of Hope- Fr. Mark Pattock, OFM Cap “In this time of social distancing, of hunkering down, take care to allow for a slowing down, to deeper prayer. Reinstitute the family recitation of the Rosary. The family that prays together stays together. Now is a privileged time to sink deeply into love, prayer, sacrifice, and mercy. Let your relationship deepen and know the tender love of God. Jesus in my heart, I believe in your tender love for me.”
