"I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.

The Retreat Center at St. John the Baptist Church

Pastor: Mark J Pattock, OFMcap

John 8:12

101 Findley Street - New Baltimore, PA 15553 (814) 733.2210

Here in the mountains, enveloped by the rolling hills of the Alleghenies, surrounded by the echo of prayers and songs of the Carmelite monks who lived here for over 100 years, you will see your soul, and your life, in a new light. Built in 1890 as a Carmelite Novitiate, St. John the Baptist Retreat Center has been completely restored, with special attention to its historical value and architectural style. Its uniqueness will help make your stay with us both prayerful and Spirit-filled. That is our hope. And that has been the experience of the many hundreds who have come to experience the living God and go home renewed.

Situated 30 miles above the Mason Dixon Line and 20 miles west of historic Bedford, PA, New Baltimore is within a half hour's drive of some of the richest history to explore in Pennsylvania. Dotted with dozens of covered bridges, connected by tributaries of a hundred or more trout streams, you can walk in the same footsteps as George Washington, General Forbes, and LaFayette, from Fort Ligonier to Fort Bedford. Flight 93 is within 15 miles.

Currently staffed by the Capuchin Franciscan Friars of the St. Augustine Province, individuals interested in making a retreat are also welcome.

Our Facility:

Features of the restored Retreat Center include 29 bedrooms and 8 private bathrooms.  The retreat center can accomodate up to 40 people if doubling up.  One bedroom and bath is accessible to the physically challenged.

A dining room, with handmade oak tables and chairs, comfortably seats 48 people. The food is prepared by women of the parish and will surpass your expectations. It is a delightful surprise. The recipes are simple and come from our local kitchens so the emphasis is on the homemade. Special diets can be accommodated if known in advance.

There are four conference rooms to accommodate various sized retreats. There is also a small, private chapel.
